Ah finally…

It escaped my notice until today, that Apple rather quietly announced the new generation of i-pods. Now I’ve been more than happy with my current i-pod (3rd generation) which has been an absolute joy to use. Frankly, I fuckin’ love it. Now Apple have finally announced a larger 80gb model which I have been crying out for.

new i-pod

Cosmetically it looks the same, but there’s been a few refinements. The battery life has apparently been boosted to 6 and a half hours on the 80gb model and there’s now more control over the brightness of the screen. There’s also a search feature implemented which should be useful, but frankly the i-pod navigation is so simple to use I can’t see myself using it. Basically all I wanted was capacity; I’ve got a full i-pod right now and I have to take off an album for every new one I put on. 80gb should do me nicely for the next few years. I’d be interested in maybe putting some videos on it, like some of the 10 minute adult swim programs like Sealab and Robot Chicken.

Anyway, can’t wait. There was plenty of other Apple stuff announced including downloadable movies and other i-pod models. There was also a new version beta version of i-tunes 7 launched, but this has gotten some poor write ups. MK, host of the rather excellant Not Your Usual Bollocks, has given his thoughts on the latest version of i-tunes and it’s well worth a read.

  1. iTunes 7 is a bit sucky – especially the insistent marketing – but it looks like that blogger has an axe to grind!

  2. I’m not going to upgrade for a while, as this version of i-tunes does everything I need. Frankly, I just want a decent music player, with podcast support. Not so much to ask.

  3. Dude, only you could need 80 gig on an ipod. Farkinell Jefferey, you’re fucked!
