Where does the blog title come from?
It’s from the song “Not Even Stevie Nicks…” by Calexico from the album A Feast of Wire.
So, you’re reviewing albums then?
Reviewing maybe isn’t the right word; I’m writing about albums I’ve enjoyed or have recently bought. A review in my mind is someone’s opinion that’d designed to make you make an unformed buying decision (basically buy/don’t buy this). I’m just talking about music I have a passion for, that I think the readers of this blog probably haven’t heard before.
Why the YouTube clips with every review?
Actually, that’s an idea I wish I’d had earlier. It’s all well and good talking about music, but to actually let people hear it at the same time is pretty helpful. Hosting MP3 was probably a dodgy idea, so if people view the video they hear the song too. Then they can decide whether I’m talking pish or not.
Last book you read?
Rip It Up and Start Again by Simon Reynolds. It’s a great read about the Post Punk era between 1978-1984 and what happened in music after Punk dissipated.
The Big Lebowski
Last film you walked out of?
I’ve never walked out of a film, but I’ve been sorely tempted to many times. It’s usually because I’m with friends and I don’t want to pressure them into leaving. The last film I wanted to walk out of was Hide ‘n Seek, it was utter shite.
TV show you always switch off?
Any kinda reality show, soap opera or celebrity program. They really do my head in. Big Brother’s the fucking worst.
Trashy TV you can’t live without?
Jackass; it’s stupid, puerile, frat-boy humour but it makes me laugh.
Sorry to be predictable, but it’s my 40GB I-pod. I just love the fact I can take (almost) my entire record collection anywhere I go.
Last album you bought?
Giant Drag – Hearts and Unicorns. Any album with a song called “Kevin Is Gay” is good in my book.
Favourite album for a Sunday morning?
Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions. It’s a really, laid-back, gentle album using nothing but acoustic guitars. It kinda flows over you, which is exactly the vibe you need.
Most embarrassing album in your collection?
I’m not really embarrassed about any album, but I do own three Ocean Colour Scene albums, which aren’t bad but they’re a throwback to the pointless nostalgia of Britpop.
It’s either a chargrilled chicken oval bite from Greggs or a Honey-chilli chicken hot wrap from O’Briens.
